Epic Drama series
It is an Australian television series that can be watched on Epic Drama. It is based on the historical mystery novels of author Kerry Greenwood and was created by Deb Cox and Fiona Eagger. The series revolves around the personal and professional life of Phryne Fisher (Essie Davis), a charming private detective from Melbourne in the 1920’s. Even though it is a police thriller, the film makes many references to the beginnings of feminism in New Zealand and Australia. Phryne Fisher, the erudite and elegant detective, violates all the imposed social rules, precisely because she considers them made by men and without any relevance for women. She is a member of many clubs, including women’s motorsport and driving, educates her housewife in the spirit of feminist emancipation, advocates for women’s education and birth control, and empathizes with all situations in which women are wrongfully accused.
